Terms
Terms of Use
The rules for using rivet-data.com and our free contract review. The most important one comes first: RivetData is not a law firm, and nothing we provide is legal advice.
Effective October 15, 2026
Not legal advice. No attorney-client relationship.
RivetData is not a law firm and does not give legal advice. Our free contract review, the findings, summaries, scores, answers and suggested redlines our software produces, and our guides are general information to support your own review. None of it is legal advice.
- No attorney-client relationship. Using this website, sending us a contract or receiving a review does not create an attorney-client relationship with RivetData or with anyone who works with us. Your communications with us are not protected by attorney-client privilege.
- Every finding is a draft. AI-assisted review can miss a clause, misread one, or apply the wrong standard to your project or your state. A qualified person, such as your attorney or an experienced contract manager, must review every finding before you rely on it, sign, negotiate or send anything.
- Your decisions are yours. You are responsible for what you sign and what you send. For legal advice, talk to a lawyer licensed where your project is located.
About these terms
These terms are an agreement between you and RivetData ("we", "us"). They apply to your use of rivet-data.com (the "site"), including our guides and the free contract review we offer through it. By using the site, you agree to them. If you don't agree, please don't use the site.
If you use the site on behalf of a company, you confirm that you're authorized to accept these terms for it.
The RivetData Console and our paid services are covered by a separate written agreement with each customer. If that agreement conflicts with these terms, the agreement controls.
Our Privacy Policy explains how we handle personal information and the contracts you send us.
The free contract review
- We offer free reviews at our discretion. We may decline a request, limit how many we do, or stop offering them. You are under no obligation to buy anything.
- Only send documents you have the right to share. Many contracts include confidentiality terms, and it is your responsibility to make sure that sharing a document with us doesn't break an obligation you owe someone else.
- We treat what you send as confidential, use it only to prepare your review, never use it to train AI models, and delete it when you ask. Our Privacy Policy has the details.
- You may use the report we send you for your own business, including sharing it with your advisers. The "not legal advice" terms above still apply to it.
Acceptable use
When you use the site, don't:
- break the law or infringe anyone's rights;
- try to get into systems, accounts or data you aren't authorized to access, including the RivetData Console;
- probe or test our systems for vulnerabilities, except in good faith under the guidelines on our Security page;
- interfere with the site, overload it, or upload malware;
- submit our forms using bots or other automated tools;
- submit false information, or someone else's personal information without their permission;
- republish or sell the site's content, except as allowed below.
We may block or limit access for anyone who breaks these rules.
Intellectual property
Ours. The site, including its text, guides, graphics and software, belongs to RivetData or our licensors. You may view, download and print pages for your own use, quote short passages with a link back to the page, and share links. Anything else, such as republishing a guide or reusing our design, needs our written permission. Don't use our name or logo in a way that suggests we endorse you or your product.
Other people's. Names of standard contract forms that appear on the site, such as AIA and ConsensusDocs, are trademarks of their owners. RivetData isn't affiliated with or endorsed by them.
Yours. You keep ownership of everything you send us. You give us permission to use it only to respond to you and to prepare your review, as our Privacy Policy describes.
Feedback. If you send us ideas or suggestions, we may use them without owing you anything.
Third-party links
The site links to other websites, such as the statutes, court decisions and official documents our guides cite. We don't control those sites and aren't responsible for their content, accuracy or privacy practices.
Disclaimers
The site, our guides and the free contract review are provided "as is" and "as available." To the fullest extent the law allows, we disclaim all warranties, express or implied, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, title, non-infringement and accuracy.
We don't promise that the site will always be available or free of errors, that our guides are current or complete for your state, or that a review will find every issue in a contract. Laws change and differ from state to state, so check anything that matters with a qualified professional.
Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent the law allows:
- RivetData won't be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for lost profits, revenue, data or business opportunities, arising from or related to the site, our guides or the free contract review, even if we were told such damages were possible.
- Our total liability for any claim arising from or related to the site, our guides or the free contract review is limited to one hundred U.S. dollars (US$100).
Some places don't allow these limits, so they may not fully apply to you. Where that's the case, our liability is limited to the smallest amount the law permits.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. When we do, we'll post the new version on this page and change the effective date. If you keep using the site after that, the updated terms apply to you.
General
These terms and our Privacy Policy are the whole agreement between you and us about the site. If any part of these terms can't be enforced, the rest still applies. If we don't enforce a term right away, we haven't given up the right to enforce it later.
